Re: ⚽ West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0 Rice (7' ), Noble (42' pen)
Think it was a bit rough on Antonio to be on the bench, particularly as he's been one of the better performers recently. Can't see what mini-mex provides that Antonio can't do better.

I think Pellegrini needs to show a bit of loyalty to the players who make the effort. Instead he keeps picking Anderson who's done pretty much fuck all since xmas.

Newcastle aren't a terrible side, so getting six points off them fairly easily highlights our earlier failure to do the same to worse sides than them.

Hopefully, when we're less of "a work in progress" next season we won't be so generous

Like an earlier poster, I thought some of our close, intricate passing was excellent as was our determination to win the ball back. At 2 nil, I felt comfortable and that has been rare for me watching us.

Also Newcastle were in decent form, so a very pleasing result and seeing Bonzo getting the recognition he deserved was brilliant.

..Until that time, we should be starting with Arnie as he is the best player for that position

How comes rice celebrated like that to the away fans? Were they giving him stick?

We still need to strengthen central midfield and another natural goal scoring striker of real quality who is strong physically to replace Arnie regardless of whether he leaves or not IMO

Spot on Alf.

Exactly the two most pressing issues.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread
Enjoyed the game good atmosphere. We were better than Newcastle but we lack a cutting edge in the finishing area.

Love the way, Pellegrini has been dealing with Arnie since the transfer saga but Hernandez is somewhat of a lightweight. Not a complete waste but I think we need more of a centre forward who can hold it up and play in the likes of Anderson and Lanzini. Arnie should be that player but I can see why Pellegrini is slow to start him. (particularly if he is off in the summer) If Antonio could lay off a pass he could be a possibility for the time being but it is a big if.

Noble has been a great servant and a better captain, but he's 32 in May and we really need to start looking for a ball playing midfielder who can control the pace of the game and spring attacks

Pellegrini obviously earmarked Wilshere for that role but due to his continued unavailability is now looking at Shelvey, I think we need better but in Pellers we trust

Two best teams in the country maybe even the world don’t have the player your talking about. Liverpool play with Wynaldum who is more like noble and not quick and Fabinho who definitely is not as quick as rice, city play with Fernandinho and the two of silva’s and would say none of those players are as quick as rice.
Yes noble has his limitations but there’s lots of top players who don’t have pace as I’ve just delinstrated. You seem obsessed with having a big player with pace and power but we had that with Kouyate.....thankfully our manager has a different way of winning games

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0 Rice (7' ), Noble (42' pen)
Norf good points. Its more about the squad depth and having some more pace/strength ( as a combination) as an option in midfield. Rice as good as he is does not have the legs to track some of the rapid players that break at speed. And Noble is getting older so personally I do not see him starting every game soon anyway. The modern game IMHO needs those type of athletic players in all areas of the park but ideally we get someone who is also technically good ( Pellegrini's preference ).

A player that is technically as good as Noble but younger, stronger and faster ideally :-) Just give us a bit more defensive cover. Will be very expensive as those type of players ( e.g. Kante) everyone wants these days. :-)

But just this old man's opinion.

Don’t you think noble rice and Lanzini played well last night??? Do you not think they compliment each other? Rice has pace and power Noble is great on the ball and and reads the game well and Lanzini is the architectural No 10. after 9 months out he was excellent last night.
Not sure who you think we should be signing...you’ve banged on here literally since the internet was invented about having somebody with pace and power who’s good on the ball and we’ve got that in Rice now but you now you want two of them....even though there’s virtually no successful team on the planet that plays that way.
Just a shame we couldn’t get Wilshere fit as he would of been the natural successor to noble hopefully they can spend the rest of this season trying to get him ready for next. Hopefully get rid of Obiang in the summer and get somebody younger who can be 2nd or 3rd choice if they can Wilshere playing 20 or 30 games.
Obviously we’d all love them to go out and spend 40/50 million on ready made players like ducoure but that is not a sustainable model for a club on our budget. We need to develope players like rice or buy young promising players like Diop and develope them with good coaching.

Just seen motd and cant believe they didnt show Diops goal saving block just before half time. Couldve been a different game second half at 2-1. Fantastic defending.
Good performance, almost the definition of comfortable second half.
Great to see Lanzini back. Just class. Surprised Pell didnt give him a rest later on for Nasri maybe.
Rice just quality too, mature beyond his years.
Fabianski too, so secure, inspires the defence.
Agree it felt wrong Nobes handing armband to Arnie. Wouldve been nice to see him hand it to Rice maybe, a sign of the impending changing of the guard perhaps.
Great to see Bonzo and a slight lump in my throat to see him so touched by the reception he got and the crowd singing his song.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0 Rice (7' ), Noble (42' pen)
Good performance and you can see the team development in terms of playing style week by week.

We still need to strengthen central midfield and another natural goal scoring striker of real quality who is strong physically to replace Arnie regardless of whether he leaves or not IMO

Fredericks just needs to improve his passing but is beginning to look like the long term right back. But we need a better left back IMO despite Cresswell returning to decent form

But the fact I am not moaning and as pessimistic as I have been for years is not only a huge relief for all of you but shows that even I am believing in “The Engineer” Pellegrini. :-)

Was thinking that
Shearer & Wright were the pundits during the week and BOTH reckoned there was enough on Silva.
That Southampton one was much more of a pen.
Ludicrous nonsense from those two

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Newcastle - Official Match Thread FT 2-0
Also - A. Shearer: Pen in Tottenham v Arsenal game - not enough contact to be a pen. Pen in Man C v West Ham game where there was even less contact - just about a penalty.

Wankers.

Just watched the MOTD highlights
Managed to edit them to show Lanzini just have a shot at the end and Anderson not touch the ball at all.
